Traditional protection methods, such as concrete barriers, have failed to withstand the relentless waves.Enter the oyster. These filter-feeding mollusks are incredibly effective at stabilizing coastlines. They form dense clusters known as oyster reefs, which act as natural breakwaters. By absorbing wave energy and trapping sand, oyster reefs can protect coastlines from erosion and flooding.
On Kutubdia, a pilot project has been launched to establish oyster reefs along the island's vulnerable shores.
